In this episode of 1050 Bascom, we were excited to collaborate with the La Follette School of Public Affairs to talk about with Tim Smeeding, Professor of Public Affairs and Economics, about the impact of the pandemic on inequality, employment and poverty. Prof. Smeeding offered his insights into current legislation that seeks to reduce poverty by expanding the help that the government gives families with children. Prof. Smeeding explains why this legislation, which has bipartisan support in Congress, is key to addressing childhood poverty. He also shared advice to students interested in public policy career paths. We thoroughly enjoyed our conversation with Prof. Smeeding and learned so much.
