Tonight’s the night—Kamala Harris accepts the Democratic Party’s nomination for President. You can hear her acceptance speech live right here, it is scheduled for approximately 7:30pm.
The arena filled up early this afternoon, with a buzz of anticipation and a long line at security outside as delegates don’t want to miss this one, and there are always extra guests and volunteers and so on who cram into the convention for the final night and the speech of the nominee for president. This will be the biggest moment of Kamala Harris’ life, under the brightest lights and with the most at stake.
Her task is to introduce herself to America, fill in the gaps for the curious but uninformed, persuade the moderate middle that no, she is not the Communist the Trump campaign keeps calling her, and make the case not just against four more years of Donald Trump but for turning the page and entrusting the country to her and to her running mate, Tim Walz. The rafters are pregnant with red white and blue balloons, ready to cascade onto the thousands of delegates below at the moment she concludes her address, triggering what the campaign hopes will be a joyful celebration not just here in the hall, but in living rooms and at watch parties across America.
