The practice of capital punishment has come under scrutiny in the US on the basis that it’s ethically wrong. Twenty-three states have banned it, and others, though the death penalty stays “on the books,” have placed a moratorium on it.

How should Christians view capital punishment in light of Scripture, and why is such a severe form of punishment the most just and merciful sentencing for a convicted murderer?
