Welcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for February 17th.
Now, today is Who Shall I Be Day, which, let’s be honest, sounds like an identity crisis wrapped in a self-help book. But in reality, it’s a great excuse to reflect on who you are, who you want to be, and, most importantly, how many bad habits you’re willing to pretend don’t exist.
So, in honor of this day of self-discovery, here’s a quote from George Bernard Shaw:
"Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself."
Shaw, who had a way with words—and also a pretty spectacular beard—hits on a fundamental truth: You’re not some buried treasure waiting to be uncovered. You’re a work in progress, like a painting that isn’t quite finished or a novel with an ever-changing plot.
It’s easy to think that one day, you’ll just find yourself—like your true identity is hiding behind the couch with all the lost socks. But in reality, who you are is shaped by the choices you make every day. You get to create yourself. Reinvent. Adapt. Maybe even upgrade—like a human software update, but with fewer glitches.
So, take this day as a reminder that you’re not stuck in one version of yourself. If you want to be more confident, kinder, or just someone who actually remembers to water the plants, you can be. It’s all about what you decide to build, step by step.
And with that, I’ll leave you to go forth and be whoever you choose to be today—hopefully someone who enjoys this podcast enough to come back tomorrow.
Because whether you are here or not tomorrow, I'll be back, same pod time, same pod station, with another Daily Quote.
