The second night of the convention is just about to get underway, former President Barack Obama is tonight’s headline speaker.
California will get the honors of putting Kamala Harris over the top in a purely symbolic roll call vote of the states tonight.
If things stay on schedule tonight, that roll call should begin shortly before 5:00 Pacific Time, and Gavin Newsom’s opportunity to get some face time with this national convention audience will come about an hour later, when he delivers California’s delegates from the floor, which will trigger a not very spontaneous celebration of the nomination of Kamala Harris for president. Last night of course things went wildly off schedule, organizers say they are going to try very hard to keep that from happening again tonight, so that Barack Obama does not suffer the same fate as Joe Biden and end up speaking into the wee hours, East Coast time.
