Hey everyone I’m Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Church.
Our new sermon series is titled “The Adequacy of Jesus Christ.”
As God promised to be adequate to meet the needs of Moses and the children of Israel, so to Jesus also claimed divine adequacy.
The great “I Am’s” of the Gospel of John are the texts we will be working through for these messages.
Today we are talking about I Am The Good Shepherd.
The shepherd’s life was not to be envied.
It was hard and constant.
Paid holidays were unheard of.
The shepherd’s workweek was twenty four hours a day seven days a week.
He faced the elements of nature in all their fury.
He endured the dangers of thieves, poachers, and wild beasts.
Because there was little grass, he was bound to lead the sheep in a constant search of food.
Veterinary skills were also part of his trade.
Many who listened to Jesus were well aquatinted with the life of a shepherd, so He used their knowledge of the shepherd and the sheep to illustrate His own relation to God’s true believers.
