Being merciful doesn’t just mean being kind to others, even when they deserve our anger. It is a heart-posture. It starts with the understanding of our own sinfulness and unworthiness, and drinks deeply of the grace – the unearned love – that God has shown to us in our sinfulness. Knowing and accepting the mercy of God produces a merciful heart in us, and transforms us to behave mercifully toward others.
